PRESS RELEASE
FRIDAY MAY 1, 2020
Missouri Symphony Offers Virtual Musical Festival and Musician Relief
Columbia, MO, May 1, 2020—Missouri Symphony (MOSY) announces plan to replace the live Hot Summer Nights Music Festival scheduled to run June 11 through July 11, 2020 with Hot Summer Nights Greatest Hits, a virtual music festival comprised of the best performances from the MOSY archives.
The Missouri Symphony staff and Board of Directors consider the risk of exposure and spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for our patrons, volunteers, and musicians to be too high.
In order to provide the community with music during this time of increased stress and uncertainty, MOSY will offer a music festival available online, free of charge.
Concerts will be uploaded to the MOSY YouTube Channel and shared on other social media platforms beginning June 11 and continuing through July 11, 2020. The online music festival will showcase performances from the Missouri Symphony Orchestra’s previous decade, curated by Maestro Kirk Trevor.
MOSY will also hold a live event on Saturday, May 9 , 2020 6PM-9PM to raise funds for the
Missouri Symphony Orchestra musicians who will be adversely affected by the decision to cancel Hot Summer Nights 2020.
The goal for the event is to raise $30,000 for the MOSY Musicians’ Relief Fund, which will provide half of what the contracted musicians expected to earn this summer.
The event will air live on Facebook and YouTube and will feature interviews and performances from Missouri Symphony Orchestra musicians.
Missouri Symphony was founded in 1970 and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
